OHS Aerospace Newsletter: Empathy to Impact
Hey Aerospace Club members (and everyone else),
**OHS AEROSPACE TAKES FLIGHT ON THE AIRWAVES!**
Recently, OHS Aerospace had the opportunity to participate in an exclusive podcast with "Empathy for Impact" to discuss the club's founding, our fundraising experience, and what lies ahead for the future of the club!
**PODCAST HIGHLIGHTS**
CLUB’S FOUNDING: The podcast begins with all our Aerospace officers introducing themselves to our host and explaining why they joined the aerospace club and how it might impact their future. Aerospace President Kevin Shen shared that ever since he was a child, he always wanted to explore what's beyond, while others offered less sentimental reasons, ranging from finding rocket launches interesting to the excitement of starting a never done before club.
FUNDRAISING: Later in the podcast, the conversation shifts to fundraising and sponsorships. We discuss how we raised over $12,000 and some of the associated challenges. We share our experiences reaching out to many large businesses, which, unfortunately, were mostly unsuccessful *cough cough* *Red Bull* *Why did you block us? 👀* before finding success with local businesses. We also dive into how we secured our biggest sponsor and title sponsor, The Olympic Flight Museum, who generously donated $10,000. We also recount our in-person visits to many other local flight companies while seeking sponsorships.
*THE FUTURE AND WHAT LIES AHEAD*:
As we approach the end, we talk about the future of the club. We discussed the possibility of starting Aerospace Clubs at some of the other middle schools (Jefferson, NOVA, Washington, etc.), which would help preserve the club for future students and leave behind a lasting legacy. We even entertain the idea of launching an introductory chapter in an elementary school. Another way we plan to preserve the OHS Aerospace club is by enhancing our social media presence. We aim to attract more students to our weekly meetings through social media campaigns and posters hung around the school. With more students taking part in every meeting, there will be greater interest in the club, ensuring its continuity for the future.
